Bubba & Sandy, Gloria and I have heard that a lot of folks are willing to help our grand-daughter with her medical problem, not only through Team National but through the world of line dancing as well, so we have set up a special account through Wachovia Bank so that folks can contribute to her needs. In order to establish the account, we had to “sponsor” the account and are responsible for all record-keeping, deposits, etc. So the actual title of the account is the Cheyenne Lenay Dancause Assistance Fund sponsored by Country Time Entertainment, but that’s a bit much to write in that blank on a check. We made the initial deposit of $100.00 to get the account set up on 3/21/2006. While I was at Gloria’s office having her sign the papers, a customer in the office to pay her bill added $40.00, and when I went to get my daughter’s signature on the paperwork, she reached under the seat of her pickup truck and pulled out a sack of coins and bills which had been collected by students at her school totaling $456.50! So the account stands at $596.50 on the very first day! Cheyenne is a Type 1 (extremely brittle) diabetic, meaning that her blood sugar cannot be controlled and her lifespan is measured at approximately 15 to 16 years. The endocrinologists at Shand’s Hospital in Gainesville, FL have approved her for the an insulin pump which will extend her lifespan significantly by constantly monitoring her blood sugar level and giving her measured doses of insulin to stabilize her blood sugar level. Without this $6,000.00 device, Cheyenne could suffer from kidney and/or liver failure, blindness, and possible amputation of extremities before finally dying as a teenager. In addition to the pump, she will continue to need insulin and other devices such as a Cleo System (which actually inserts the needle for the pump) for the remainder of her life. We are also in the process of registering this fund with the State of Florida and may begin a charitable fund at some time in the future for other children in her situation. Cheyenne’s mother Cassandra Dancause is a teacher of Severely Emotionally Handicapped students at Atlantic High School in Daytona Beach, FL and became an IMD on my left side before Gloria and I upgraded to our Team National premium package. Although she and Cheyenne are covered under the Volusia County School Board insurance plan, the plan does not cover this insulin pump, its extra devices such as the Cleo System for inserting the needles, or the continuing insulin which will be needed over the years simply because the insulin package for the pump is “not on their formulary”.
